Linz Europa Tour

Popular Austrian songwriter and musician Hubert von Goisern with WWF staff on the barge von Goisern is using for his 2007-2009 Danube tour.

An important focus for the Danube campaign was the Linz Europa Tour 2007-2009 of Hubert von Goisern, a popular Austrian singer and songwriter, whose distinctive “alpine rock” has made him famous throughout Austria and lower Germany.

The first part of the tour – in 2007 – involved going by a special barge from Linz (Austria) down the Danube to its delta and back to Linz and giving 25 concerts in towns and villages on the way, each time with popular musicians from the hosting country. In 2008, the tour involved going up the Danube and on the Rhine to reach the North Sea.

The Tour has now ended with a reunion concert in Linz, the European Capital of Culture in 2009, where all musicians featured in the tour up and down the Danube participated.

The water of the Danube has overcome all barriers along its way to the ‘Black Sea.  I want to do the same and be carried by its waters, to experience the things that this impressive river connects.

The protection of the Danube is a central concern for me.  Together with WWF and its partners I want to contribute to preserving this unique heritage for the benefit of people and nature and protecting it from future threats.

The Danube must remain Europe’s lifeline.  ... Nature can do without mankind, but mankind not without nature.
